Our school, Osgoode Township High School has made it into the finals of the Aviva Contest community fund..  The Aviva contest was a Canada wide contest where schools, students and communities had to vote on the best community based ideas. A total of 20 entries where voted into the finals from a total of over 2000 school and community improvement ideas. We are currently waiting until the end of the month, where we will find out if a panel of celebrity judges will choose our idea over the other finalists. The judges must give out over $500000 among the best ideas. Our idea would cost about $100000 and is under the large community project category. You may see all the ideas including ours at www.avivacommunityfund.org. Our idea is called Time For a Paradigm Shift: Energy Solutions We Can All Adopt. Our goal would be to install a 10kw solar energy generating station on our school's roof. The school would then become a mini gener ation station for Ontario Hydro allowing us to produce approximately $14000 in revenue per year for the next 20 years by selling energy back to the grid. This is possible thanks to the new Ontario Green Act and anyone including private citizens can sell back green energy to the grid to help reduce greenhouse emissions and make a bit of money. A huge thank you is owed to our parents, community members from the Greely and Metcalfe region, our enthusiastic students, our staff, administration and our feeder schools for their amazing support.
